It's no secret that Texans deal with wrinkles and volume loss. Men and women around the state find that time and the harsh elements combine to give them an aged appearance. One of the most popular treatments for addressing this common age-related volume loss is Juvéderm®. Irving, Fort Worth, and other North Texas clients know Juvéderm® is easy to administer, provides natural-looking and long-lasting results, and it does not require any surgery.
The best results come from trained and experienced medical professionals. At Skin Care Fort Worth, Dr. Peter Damico makes a point of administering the injections himself. His eye for detail and in-depth knowledge of anatomy give him an edge when working with patients seeking solutions for their facial cosmetic needs.

Juvéderm® is one of many modern cosmetic treatments known as dermal fillers. These injectables physically fill out areas of the face and hands that have lost vital components in the skin. This loss can lead to a reduction in volume, causing formerly youthful facial structures to sag and develop lines.
One of the key natural compounds that provides volume for healthy skin is hyaluronic acid. This carbohydrate can hold 1,000 times its own weight in water, making it an excellent volumizer. As we age, hyaluronic acid begins to diminish in the skin, a victim of dwindling production and UV damage. As skin dries out, it folds into wrinkles and sinks into hollows.
Juvéderm® is a carefully modified form of hyaluronic acid designed to be a safe and effective replacement for what is lost to time and sunlight. There are several varieties of Juvéderm®, including Juvéderm® XC, Ultra XC, and Voluma® XC. The first focuses on smoothing wrinkles near the mouth and nose, the second plumps up lips, and the third restores volume to the chin, temples, and apples of the cheeks.
While Juvéderm® XC can be used to address a variety of aesthetic concerns, it is most frequently injected to reduce the appearance of wrinkles that appear around the nose and mouth. The U.S. FDA has approved Juvéderm® for treating:
Juvéderm® is a smooth gel, which allows for a quick treatment process. After a consultation and the careful selection of injection sites for maximum youthful results, the actual session may last as little as 15 minutes.
Dr. Damico uses a cannula as opposed to a traditional needle to reduce trauma at the injection site. The rounded tip allows for a gentler approach and helps to prevent the sort of bruising and other side effects associated with needles.
Juvéderm® also contains a small amount of the anesthetic lidocaine, which helps to reduce sensation at the injection site, increasing a patient's comfort during the treatment session.
Results are instantly visible, and can last up to a year under ideal conditions. Patients may want to return for touch-up treatments after their initial injection. Follow-up sessions involve less of the product and can extend the results.
Patients who experience side effects tend to see conditions common to injection sites: temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, itching, and possible bruising. Any of these, if present after a treatment session, should resolve in the span of a week.
Dr. Damico can discuss all of the Juvéderm®-related safety considerations at the time of your consultation, as well as answer specific questions you may have about its record and what to expect and watch for.
As mentioned above, Juvéderm® XC shares its name with the lip-plumping Ultra® and structure-providing Voluma®. Other dermal fillers available to patients looking to restore youthful fullness and vitality to their face include Radiesse®.
Another injectable, BOTOX®, also smooths out wrinkles, but it accomplishes this not by adding volume, but by relaxing the muscles that push and pull the skin into folds.
When used together as desired, these treatments can give patients a rejuvenated appearance that also looks balanced and natural.
